Dr. Ankit Shah is a board-certified cataract and corneal transplant surgeon. His journey in the field of ophthalmology has been marked by unwavering dedication, extensive expertise, and a passion for advancing patient care.
Dr. Shah embarked on his medical career at the University of South Florida College of Medicine, where he earned his medical degree and completed his residency in ophthalmology, eventually serving as chief resident. His commitment to excellence led him to further specialize in cornea surgery through a fellowship at the renowned Ohio State University Havener Eye Institute. Here, he honed his skills in advanced procedures, including all types of corneal transplants.
Upon the completion of his fellowship, Dr. Shah assumed the role of assistant professor at the University of Florida, specializing in cataract and corneal transplant surgeries. His exceptional surgical skills and commitment to patient care quickly propelled him to become one of the highest volume transplant surgeons in the state of Florida. Dr. Shah's focus on high-risk cataract, transplant, and trauma surgeries earned him a stellar reputation, attracting patients from across Florida and Georgia.
Notably, Dr. Shah also extended his expertise to those who served our country by serving as the cataract and corneal transplant surgeon at the North Florida/South Georgia VA Health System. His dedication to veterans reflects his commitment to providing exceptional eye care to all.
With a prolific research background, Dr. Shah has contributed significantly to the field, publishing over 25 manuscripts, book chapters, and posters on diverse topics such as GVHD, infections, transplantations, and cataract surgeries. His expertise has been recognized nationally, earning him invitations to speak at prestigious meetings.
Recently, Dr. Shah accepted the role of Chief of the Ophthalmology Service at the Salem VA Medical Center in Roanoke, Virginia. In this leadership position, he is actively building and shaping the division, furthering his impact on eye care for our veterans. Dr. Shah has secured faculty appointments as an assistant professor of ophthalmology at the University of Virginia College of Medicine, assistant professor of surgery at both Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine and Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine.
Beyond his medical endeavors, Dr. Shah is a devoted husband and father of two. His interests extend to resident surgical wet lab curriculum development, resident education, medical consulting, and physician advising. Dr. Shah's multifaceted approach to medicine and life reflects his commitment to excellence, leadership, and the well-being of his patients and community.
